Merav Barnea

Merav Barnea

The young-dramatic soprano Merav Barnea is one of the leading classical singers of Israel today. Merav was born in the city of Kfar-Saba, Israel. At the age of fifteen she joined a vocal group of five young female singers performing Israeli folklore repertoire, and made her first on-stage appearance with the group. At the age of eighteen, she served as a Negev desert guide, during her two year military service. Merav Barnea started her professional training at the age of twenty one, at the Israel Rubin Academy of Music (renamed The Buchmann-Mehta School of Music) at the Tel Aviv University, studying under Professor Tamar Rachum. After graduating from the Rubin Music Academy with distinction, she moved to Berlin where she received her Master’s degree in music (graduated again with distinction) under Professor Ingrid Figur at the Hochscule der Künste (renamed Universität der Künste Berlin).
