Jose Luis Duval

Exciting Mexican tenor José Luis Duval has thrilled audiences in some of the best theatres in his native country, South America, the United States, and Europe, in both opera and zarzuela. Born in Guanajuato, Mr. Duval began his musical studies at an early age with Maestros Pedro Magaña and Gilberto Avalos, and received a scholarship from SIVAM, which allowed him to work with many important conductors and coaches.  He has sung under the direction of such conductors as Maestros Placido Domingo, Enrique Patrón de Rueda, Alfredo Silipigni, Miguel Roa, Ronald Zollman,  Jorge Mester, Daniel Oren, Fabio Armiliato and Emmanuel Villaume.

Duval’s operatic roles have included Manrico IL TROVATORE (Bellas Artes Mexico City, Teatro Jerez de la Frontera), Don Jose CARMEN (Bellas Artes, Teatro di San Carlo, Baltimore Opera), Loris FEDORA (Bellas Artes), Radames AIDA (Bellas Artes, Prague National Theatre), Calaf TURANDOT (Bellas Artes,  Connecticut Opera), Turiddu CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA (Bellas Artes, Teatro di San Carlo), Cavaradossi TOSCA (Bellas Artes, Washington National Opera, Prague National Theatre, Piedmont Opera Theatre), Edgardo LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR (Bellas Artes), Rodolfo LA BOHEME (Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Pittsburgh Opera), Pollione NORMA (Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria), Pinkerton MADAMA BUTTERFLY (Palm Beach Opera, Baltimore Opera, Opera Columbus, Arizona Opera), Duca RIGOLETTO (New Orleans Opera, Baltimore Opera, Prague National Theatre), Ismaele NABUCCO (Los Angeles Opera, Dallas Opera, Opera Carolina), Riccardo UN BALLO IN MASCHERA (Piedmont Opera Theatre),  Paco LA VIDA BREVE(Dallas Opera), Alfredo LA TRAVIATA (Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Colon) and Rinaldo L’INCANTESIMO (Opera Orchestra of New York).  Concert repertoire includes the Verdi Requiem with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.

Recent performances have also included LA BOHEME in Pamplona, the title-role AROLDO in Bilbao, Pinkerton MADAMA BUTTERFLY in Guadalajara, José CARMEN in Juarez, Calaf TURANDOT in Manaus, Brazil, and Canio PAGLIACCI at the Bellas Artes, concert performances of OTELLO at the Cervantino Festival, Rodolfo LA BOHEME at the Metropolitan Opera, Calaf TURANDOT with the Piedmont Opera Theatre, a Gala Concert celebrating the re-opening of the newly renovated Palacio de Bellas Artes where he also sang José CARMEN and Rodolfo LA BOHEME the Mozart Requiem in Toluca, Calaf TURANDOT in Uruguay and Bellas Artes Tijuana, Cavaradossi TOSCA in Costa Rica, Rodolfo LA BOHEME for Chicago Lyric Opera and two concerts celebrating the birthday of Giuseppe Verdi in Frankfurt and Medellin.
