In autumn 2013 Ricardo Tamura made his successful debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York as Cavaradossi TOSCA, and has since appeared there as Gustavo UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, the tilte-role DON CARLOS, Turiddu CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA and Canio PAGLIACCI.
Born in Brasil, Ricardo Tamura first studied geology at the Sao Paulo University. Having completed this studies , he began studying singing at the Julliard School in New York on the recommendation of Licia Albanese. He completed his musical education at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and the Accademia Verdiana in Busseto with Carlo Bergonzi. His first engagement brought him to the Zurich Opera House, where he was a member of the International Opera Studio.
Mr Tamura is dedicated to the Italian repertoire, especially the works of Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini. Operatic engagements include the title-role DON CARLOS at the Nurnberg Staatstheater, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Rodolfo LA BOHEME, Pinkerton MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Cavaradossi TOSCA and Calaf TURANDOT at the Vienna Volksoper and Des Grieux MANON LESCAUT, Riccardo UN BALLO IN MASCHERA and Radames AIDA at the Arena di Verona. Tamura has performed the role of Canio PAGLIACCI at the Schlossfestspiele Schwerin and at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the title-role OTELLO at the Staatstheater Kassel and Hannover Staatsoper, where he has also sung Calaf TURANDOT, Bacchus ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, Turiddu CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA and Canio PAGLIACCI. He has sung Bacchus ARIADNE AUF NAXOS at Welsh National Opera and the Nurnberg Staatsoper where he also has appeared in the title-role TANNHÄUSER.
His first radio transmission took place in 2005, as he sung with the WDR Orchestra (West German Radio Orchestra) in Alfredo Keil’s Portugese National Opera SERRANA at the Dresden Semper Opera. In 2006 his first recording (Hans Werner Henze’s DAS WUNDERTHEATER) was released. In the same year he took part in a concert on the occasion of the 150 anniversary of Puccini with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra in Japan and an open-air concert for a 60,000 audience at the Luitpoldhain in Nuremberg.
In 2016/17 Mr Tamura sang Calaf TURANDOT at the Metropolitan Opera New York under Fabio Luisi and he made his role debut as Des Grieux MANON LESCAUT at the Hannover Staatsoper. At the opera houses of Pisa and Goldoni, he again sang the role of Des Grieux and gave concerts in the Meisterhalle in Nuremburg and in Tokyo. Lately,he enjoyed great successes as Calaf TURANDOT at the Leipzig Oper, as Don Jose CARMEN in Nurnburg and as Cavaradossi TOSCA and Don Jose CARMEN in Koblenz. In the season 2018/19 his roles include Cavaradossi TOSCA at Theater Osnabruck and the title-role RIENZI at Stadttheater Klagenfurt
