countertenor Jean-Max Lattemann appears equally on the opera and concert stage and is unanimously praised by critics for his interpretations and vocal expressiveness. His repertoire ranges from early baroque to modern and contemporary music, having worked with conductors such as Robert Howarth, Richard Hetherington, Eamonn Dougan, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Matthias Jung and Franz Brochhagen.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the 2023\/24 season are his debut as Prinz Orlofksy <strong><em>DIE FLEDERMAUS<\/em><\/strong> with St Paul\u2019s Opera in London, return visits to Heidelberg and Dresden for concerts with Buxtehude <strong><em>Membra Jesu Nostri<\/em><\/strong> as well as his concert debut in Vienna with Beethoven <strong><em>Mass In C Major<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The 2022\/23 season saw Jean-Max\u2019s return to T\u00eate-\u00e0-T\u00eate Opera Festival in London to perform the role of Young Philip in the world premiere of Robert Ely\u2019s chamber opera <strong><em>1936:FISHING<\/em><\/strong>. Further highlights were his debuts at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre National Mohammed V in Rabat in Morocco as <em>Nerillo<\/em> <strong><em>L\u2019ORMINDO<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; the first time this opera was performed in the country of its setting, at the Internationale Maifestspiele Wiesbaden as <em>Bacchus \/ Evanthes<\/em> in Johann Georg August Conradi\u2019s rediscovered opera <strong><em>ARIADNE<\/em><\/strong>, and at the Barockfest Darmstadt in H\u00e4ndel <strong><em>Israel In Egypt<\/em><\/strong>. He also performed Heinrich Sch\u00fctz <strong><em>Musikalische Exequien<\/em><\/strong> in Dresden and Leipzig and returned to Heidelberg for Bach <strong><em>Mass In B Minor<\/em><\/strong> and<strong><em> ST MATTHEW PASSION<\/em><\/strong> and to Wiesbaden for Homilius <strong><em>St Matthew Passion<\/em><\/strong> and Buxtehude <strong><em>Membra Jesu Nostri<\/em><\/strong>. Furthermore, he toured England and Wales for song recitals with pianist Dylan Perez.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of previous seasons include Jean-Max\u2019s Austrian debut at the Tanzquartier Wien (Vienna) in the world premiere of a new chamber opera <strong><em>DURST<\/em><\/strong> by award-winning Czech multi-media composer Robert J\u00ed\u0161a, which also featured at the Dvorak Festival in Olomouc (CZ) in May 2022, his operatic debuts with Bury Court Opera and at London\u2019s Grimeborn and T\u00eate-\u00e0-T\u00eate Opera Festivals and returns to Dartington International Festival.<\/p>\n<p>His operatic repertoire includes the title role <strong><em>SERSE<\/em><\/strong>, Nerone <strong><em>AGRIPPINA<\/em><\/strong>, Apollo <strong><em>APOLLO ET HYACINTH<\/em><\/strong> and Schneiderlein in Wolfgang Mitterer <strong><em>DAS TAPFERE SCHNEIDERLEIN<\/em><\/strong>. In addition, Jean-Max has premiered several operatic roles, including Peregrine in Vahan Salorian <strong><em>BOYS OF PARADISE<\/em><\/strong> and Big Mountain Witch in Noah Mosley\u2019s opera <strong><em>AURORA<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the concert stage the works of Bach and H\u00e4ndel naturally take an important place, but Jean-Max focusses on rarely performed musical gems too, such as works by Alessandro Scarlatti, Telemann and Homilius. Together with pianist Dylan Perez he has devised a song recital programme titled <em>\u201cA New Beginning\u201d,<\/em> which gives an impression of the enormous variety of the countertenor voice &#8211; with works by Duparc, Faur\u00e9, Dove, Tippet, Schubert, Reimann, Haydn and Mahler.<\/p>\n<p>Contemporary music is another important part of Jean-Max\u2019s work. He has performed at the <em>&#8220;Rising Stars&#8221;<\/em> concerts of the City of London Festival, the <em>&#8220;GSMD Voiceworks Alumni&#8221;<\/em> series at London\u2019s Wigmore Hall and at the &#8220;LSO Platforms&#8221; at the Barbican Centre and was awarded the Tracey Chadwell Memorial Award by the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Max first studied with Hartmut Zabel at the Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik in Dresden before moving to London to study with Andrew Watts at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During his studies he also worked with internationally renowned artists such as Dame Emma Kirkby, Jane Manning (\u2020) and Ludger R\u00e9my (\u2020), and took part in masterclasses with Dorothee Mields, Simone Kermes, Robert Levin and Graham Johnson.<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Max has been generously supported by the Guildhall School Trust, the Eileen Nesfield Cookson Bursary Fund and the Radcliffe Trust.
