Karin Lovelius has become well known in her native Scandinavia and in mainland Europe for her intense interpretations of the dramatic mezzo-soprano repertoire.<\/p>\n<p>Between 2010 ands 2024 Ms Lovelius was the leading dramatic mezzo-soprano at Oper Leipzig where her roles included Fricka, Erda, First Norn and Grimgerde <em><strong>DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN,<\/strong><\/em> Herodias <em><strong>SALOME<\/strong><\/em>, Die Amme <em><strong>DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN<\/strong><\/em>, Auntie <em><strong>PETER GRIMES<\/strong><\/em>, Klytaemnestra <em><strong>ELEKTRA<\/strong><\/em> Waltraute <em><strong>GOETTERDAMMERUNG<\/strong><\/em>, Gertrud <em><strong>HAENSEL UND GRETEL<\/strong><\/em>, Adelaide and Kartenaufschl\u00e4gerin <em><strong>ARABELLA<\/strong><\/em>, Leokadja Begbick Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny, Jezibaba <em><strong>RUSALKA<\/strong><\/em>, Baba the Turk <em><strong>THE RAKE\u2019S PROGRESS<\/strong><\/em>, Annina <em><strong>DER N\u00dcRNBERG<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>With Herodias <em><strong>SALOME<\/strong><\/em> Ms Lovelius has guested at the Finnish National Opera, Badisches Staatstheater, Bergen International Festival and Malm\u00f6 Opera. She made her debut at Komische Oper with Kabanicha <em><strong>KAT\u2019A KABANOVA<\/strong><\/em> and at Semperoper Dresden with Marcellina <em><strong>LE NOZZE DI FIGARO<\/strong><\/em>. Ms Lovelius has also appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Royal Opera House, Sweden, the Finnish National Opera, the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Theater Erfurt, Stockholm Volksoper, the Gothenburg Opera and Opera p\u00e5 Sk\u00e4ret.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Lovelius\u2019 guest engagements have included Grimgerde <em><strong>DIE WALKUERE<\/strong><\/em> at Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Capitole de Toulouse, Second Norn and Grimgerde <em><strong>DER RING DER NIBELUNGEN<\/strong><\/em> in Odense, The Duchess <em><strong>POWDER HER FACE<\/strong> <\/em>at the Musica Nova Festival in Helsinki, Jezibaba (cover) <em><strong>RUSALKA<\/strong><\/em> at the Glyndebourne Festival, Mary <em><strong>DER FLIEGENDE HOLLAENDER<\/strong><\/em> at Opera Malmo, Fricka and Scwertleite <em><strong>DER RING DER NIBELUNGEN<\/strong><\/em> at Die Theater Chemnitz and Marthe <em><strong>FAUST<\/strong><\/em> at Teatro Comunale di Bolzano.<\/p>\n<p>On the concert platform Ms. Lovelius has has worked with orchestras such as the Belgrade Philarmonic Orchestra in Erda SIEGFRIED, Malm\u00f6 Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra with Beethiven <em><strong>Symphony No 9<\/strong><\/em>, Vaasa City Ochestra with Lieder by Alma Mahler, The Gewandhaus Orchestra in Elgar <em><strong>The Music Makers<\/strong><\/em>, Bayerische Rundfunk Orchestra and Gothenburg Wind Orchestra. She has also recorded art song for broadcasting companies such as The Swedish Radio and Bayerische Rundfunk with whom she premiered works by Gerd K\u00fchr and Reine Joensson.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Lovelius has produced and performed several in musical portraits a.o. about Virginia Woolf and recently Heinrich Heine in a co-production with Klassik Underground and Oper Leipzig. After a Bachelor of Economics and marketing Karin trained at Opera Studio 67 in Stockholm followed by a Master in Opera at the Sibelius-Academy in Finland.
