internationally in a wide range of operatic roles. Highlights include his\u00a0work with Seattle Opera, Opera Bellas Artes Mexico City, Nico and the Navigators, Bregenzer Festspiele,\u00a0Aldeburgh Festival, Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2018\/2019 season Mr Schmitz sang Reverand Adams <strong><em>PETER GRIMES<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at Palau de les Arts, in Valencia; Achante in the American premiere of Rameau\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>SYMPATHY<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with Victory Hall Opera.\u00a0 Mr. Schmitz has also sung a central role in four productions with the international ensemble, Nico and the Navigators:\u00a0<strong><em>Niemand Stirbt in der Mitte seines Lebens<\/em><\/strong>, a staged concert of pre-existing works based on the theme of death, at Berlin Konzerthaus, Berlin Radialsystem;\u00a0 An all-Schubert staged concert,\u00a0<strong><em>Silent Songs,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>with Nico and the Navigators, performing at BOZAR, Brussels; Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Staatstheater Oldenburug; Staatstheater Braunschweig; Konzerthaus Berlin; Berlin Radialsystem and Arsenal de Metz;\u00a0<strong><em>Die Zukunft von Gestern<\/em><\/strong>, a new production at Sophiensaele Berlin and Berlin Radialsystem; and\u00a0<strong><em>DIE STUNDE DA WIR ZU VIEL VON EINANDER WUSSTEN<\/em><\/strong>, a new production at Kampnagel in Hamburg, Radialsystem in Berlin, and Opera Nimes and Theatre d\u2019Antibes.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020\/2021 season, Mr Schmitz will perform and devise two new works with the Nico and the Navigators:\u00a0<strong><em>Empathy for the Devil,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0a staged concert at the Berlin Konzerthaus with the Konzerthaus Orchester and at BOZAR, Brussels with the National Orchestra of Belgium and\u00a0<strong><em>Force and Freedom<\/em><\/strong>, an all-Beethoven staged work with the Kuss Quartet at the Esterhazy Palace and Berlin Radialsystem.<\/p>\n<p>Other recent engagements include cover the role of Tapioca <strong><em>L\u2019\u00c9TOILE<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the Royal Opera House and the Witch of Endor in Handel\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>SAUL<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0for the Glyndebourne Festival. Der Wirt and Haushofmeisters <strong><em>DER ROSENKAVALIER<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Andris Nelsons, cover of Peter Quint <strong><em>THE TURN OF THE SCREW\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>with Glyndebourne on Tour, Wilhelm Meister <strong><em>MIGNON<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with New Sussex Opera, Reverend Adams in the\u00a0Chinese premiere of\u00a0<strong><em>PETER GRIMES<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with an international cast\u00a0in Beijing,\u00a0multiple roles of Achmet, Crook, and the Grand Inquisitor <strong><em>CANDIDE<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with MDR Orchestra in Leipzig, Britten\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Serenade for Tenor Horn and Strings<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with the North York Moors Festival, Tapioca <strong><em>L\u2019\u00c9TOILE<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with New Sussex Opera and Gastone <strong><em>LA TRAVIATA<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0Opera Project, and Remendado <strong><em>CARMEN<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with the Cambridge Philharmonic.\u00a0 Mr Schmitz was recently featured in new recording of Ethyl Smyth\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>THE BOATSWAIN\u2019S MATE<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with Retrospect Opera.\u00a0 He also recently finished a tour of a staged production Rossini\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Petite Messe Solennelle<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with Nico and the Navigators.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Schmitz has had much success with the role of Aschenbach <strong><em>DEATH IN VENICE<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0performed with Opera de Bellas Artes and covered with the Aldeburgh Festival.\u00a0 Mr Schmitz also performed the role of Hotel Porter <strong><em>DEATH IN VENICE<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with Aldeburgh and Bregenz Festivals under the direction of Yoshii Oida.<\/p>\n<p>Other opera credits include: Don Basilio and Don Curzio <strong><em>LE NOZZE DI FIGARO<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with Seattle Opera. the Gielgud Theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Schmitz has premiered songs by Ned Rorem and John Musto with the New York Festival of Song.\u00a0 Other concert credits include\u00a0<strong><em>Les Noces<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(Stravinsky) and\u00a0<strong><em>Paukenmesse<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Haydn) with the Auckland Philharmonic in New Zealand<strong><em>, Elijah<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at Birmingham Town Hall with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra, Beethoven\u00a0<strong><em>Symphony No. 9<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra, and the title role <strong><em>Saint Nicolas<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Britten) with the New Elizabethan Singers.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning his studies as both an actor and singer at Northwestern University, Mr Schmitz continued on to complete degrees there and at the Manhattan School of Music.\u00a0 Mr Schmitz furthered his work and training in the Young Artist Programs of Central City Opera, Britten-Pears Programme, Opera
