Switzerland, Patrick Furrer studied piano in Zurich and conducting in Bern, Vienna and at the American Academy of Conducting in Aspen. After leading a local youth orchestra and several choirs in Switzerland, Mr Furrer embarked on his professional career at the Basel Opera, where he was engaged as a r\u00e9p\u00e9titeur and conductor, working on productions including <strong><em>ELEKTRA<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>TURANDOT<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>OTELLO<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>LE NOZZE DI FIGARO<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>DIE ENTF\u00dcHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL<\/em><\/strong>, Bruno Maderna <strong><em>SATYRICON<\/em><\/strong>, Zimmermann <strong><em>DIE SOLDATEN<\/em><\/strong>, Frank Martin <strong><em>CORNET<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>JENUFA<\/em><\/strong>. Following his time in Basel he was appointed Erster Kapellmeister at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck where he conducted <strong><em>H\u00c4NSEL UND GRETEL<\/em><\/strong>, Krenek <strong><em>JONNY SPIELT AUF<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>UN BALLO IN MASCHERA<\/em><\/strong>, Prokofiev <strong><em>ROMEO AND JULIET<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>DIE LUSTIGE WEIBER VON WINDSOR<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>COS\u00cc FAN TUTTE<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>OTELLO<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>DIE ZAUBERFL\u00d6TE<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>WERTHER<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Furrer has worked extensively as a guest conductor including performances of <strong><em>L\u2019<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>ELISIR D\u2019AMORE<\/em><\/strong> at the Volksoper Vienna, <strong><em>DON GIOVANNI<\/em><\/strong> at the Lucerne Opera, <strong><em>RIGOLETTO<\/em><\/strong> at the St. Gallen Opera, <strong><em>UN BALLO IN MASCHERA<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>DIE ZAUBERFL\u00d6TE<\/em><\/strong> in Mannheim, and <strong><em>H\u00c4NSEL UND GRETEL<\/em><\/strong> in N\u00fcrnberg. A return to the Theater Basel included performances of Othmar Schoeck <strong><em>PENTHESILEA<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>LA BOH\u00c8ME<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>DER FLIEGENDE HOLL\u00c4NDER<\/em><\/strong> and for the Zurich Oper he conducted <strong><em>LES CONTES D\u2019HOFFMANN<\/em><\/strong>. In 2015 he began his collaboration with the Academy for Performing Arts in Hong Kong with a new production of <strong><em>DIE FLEDERMAUS<\/em><\/strong> and since then he regularly returns for symphonic performances with the Academy Symphony Orchestra where his concerts have included Mahler<strong><em> Symphony No.5<\/em><\/strong> and Mahler <strong><em>Symphony<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>No.9<\/em><\/strong>, Stravinsky <strong><em>Petrushka<\/em><\/strong> and Richard Strauss<strong><em> Till Eulenspiegel<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 For the Northwestern School of Music in Chicago he recently conducted a new production of Berlioz <strong><em>B\u00c9ATRICE ET B\u00c9N\u00c9DICT<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0On the concert platform Mr Furrer has conducted the Tonhalle-Orchester Z\u00fcrich, M\u00fcncher Rundfunkorchester, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Sinfonieorchester Bern and the Nieder\u00f6sterreichisches Tonk\u00fcnstler Orchester.<\/p>\n<p>He joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera as an Assistant Conductor\/Cover Conductor from the 2010\/11 season and has worked there every subsequent season on many productions, working closely with Daniele Gatti, Philippe Jordan, Vladimir Jurowski, Fabio Luisi and Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin. He has subsequently worked in the same capacity at the Salzburg Festival on productions including <strong><em>DIE MEISTERSINGER VON N\u00dcRNBERG, IL TROVATORE<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>WOZZECK<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At the Metropolitan Opera he made his conducing debut with three performances of <strong><em>DON CARLOS<\/em><\/strong> (including the HD broadcast) and this season conducted three performances of the company\u2019s new production of <strong><em>LOHENGRIN<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 In the 2023\/24 season he will conduct nine performances of
