In addition to his work in contemporary opera, Timur regularly tours with his glam rock opera band, Timur & the Dime Museum. The band was featured in the opera Zoophilic Follies by Daniel Corral; the Industry LA production of CRESCENT CITY; in NYC as part of the PROTOTYPE festival in 2013 and 2015, produced by Beth Morrison Projects and the HERE Arts Center; and in COLLAPSE by Daniel Corral, commissioned by Redcat Theater in 2014, with performances at Miami Light Project and Operadagen. David T. Little’s new 2018 project ARTAUD IN THE BLACK LODGE is being composed for Timur and the Dime Museum. He made his European recital debut at the Operadagen Rotterdam Festival, with premieres by Evan Ziporyn and David Rosenboom. Recent engagements include Pirelli SWEENEY TODD with Fresno Grand Opera, Ambrose Strang ANATOMY THEATRE for Beth Morrison/PROTOTYPE and Astrologer in Rimsky-Korsakov’s THE GOLDEN COCKEREL with Sarasota Opera. Upcoming engagements and projects include John Kennedy ONE BODY, Dionysus YOUNG CEASAR with LA Philharmonic, Triquet Eugene Onegin with Hawaii Opera Theatre, the RCAS Gala at the Embassy of France in D.C. and recitals in Japan.
With Eastman’s Ossia Players Timur performed EIGHT SONGS FOR A MAD KING and premiered the role of Paul Mash in ORANGO by Shostakovich, directed by Peter Sellars, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen and released on Deutsche Grammophon. He performed in Ligeti’s LE GRAND MACABRE at the National Palace of Arts in Hungary, which received live radio broadcast across Europe; in the world premiere of PIERROT by Mohammed Fairouz with the Da Capo Ensemble; HOMMAGE A KLAUS NOMI by Olga Neuwirth, as part of the 21c Liederabend/BAM Next Wave Festival; Naxos-released recording of Rossini in Wildbad Festival’s production of Ser Marcantonio. As a recipient of the Center for Cultural Innovation and Foundation for Contemporary Art grants, Timur designed an installation DO_SCREAM, based on Dido and Aeneas; created a play, based on Szymanowski’s song-cycle SONGS OF THE MAD MUEZZIN; directed a staged premiere of Chinary Ung’s STILL LIFE AFTER DEATH; collaborated with film artist Sandra Powers on over ten music videos, and currently is collaborating with Margaret Cho on his new cabaret comedy show LOVE, HONOR, OBEY. His voice can be heard on the soundtrack of film Ruby Sparks released by Fox Searchlight. He is a faculty member at the California Institute of the Arts.
