Ariana Chris

Greek-Canadian mezzo soprano Ariana Chris has performed a wide range of operatic and concert repertoire, from 18th to 21st Century, in leading opera houses and concert venues throughout North America, Asia and Europe such as Carnegie Hall, New York City Opera, Le Poisson Rouge (New York), Opera Français de New York, Santa Fe Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Opéra de Québec, Opéra de Montréal, Opera Hong Kong, Angers Nantes Opera (France), Opera Baltycka (Poland), and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Other prestigious appearances include representing Greece in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition 2005, performing under Athens’ historic Acropolis as part of a gala for Canada House during the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics, and singing the role of Komponist in the Polish National Premiere of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, a production which was televised for Mezzo Television France in 39 countries worldwide.  Ms Chris was seen and heard by billions of viewers worldwide when she performed the Greek National Anthem at the Closing Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, alongside the great Canadian tenor Ben Heppner.

Ms. Chris’ operatic roles include Aloès (cover: Royal Opera House – Covent Garden) L’ÉTOILE, Garcias DON QUICHOTTE, the title-role CARMEN, Meg FALSTAFF, Dorabella COSÌ FAN TUTTE, the title-role CENDRILLON, Flora LA TRAVIATA, Orlofsky DIE FLEDERMAUS, Lucretia RAPE OF LUCRETIA and Cherubino LE NOZZE DI FIGARO.

Ms Chris completed her training at the University of Toronto and went on to apprentice with the Opéra de Montréal and Santa Fe Opera. Combining her classical training and Greek heritage, her recording of Greek Tangos was released in 2014.
