Christopher Nazarian

image1Christopher Nazarian is an Australian-Armenian bass and pianist. During the 2019 season, Christopher performed the roles of Zaccaria NABUCCO and covered Timur TURANDOT with Sarasota Opera, Spineloccio and covered Simone GIANNI SCHICCHI with St. Petersburg Opera Florida. Christopher will return to Sarasota Opera as Studio Artist to sing Count Ceprano and cover Sparafucile RIGOLETTO and to New Rochelle Opera as Dr Grenvil LA TRAVIATA.

His 2018 credits include his US debut as Leporello DON GIOVANNI with St Petersburg Opera, Colline LA BOHEME with New Rochelle Opera, Pistola FALSTAFF with Martina Arroyo Foundation-Prelude Performance, The King AIDA with Gateway to Classical Music NYC, Yamadori MADAMA BUTTERFLY with Orchestra of St Peter by The Sea, and Ben TELEPHONE with IVAI.

In recent seasons, Christopher has performed Sarastro/Sprecher THE MAGIC FLUTE, Truffaldino/Lackai ARIADNE AUF NAXOS with Berlin Opera Academy, Rudolfo LA SONNAMBULA with Operantics and The Penrith Symphony Orchestra, Frere Laurance ROMEO ET JULIETTE with IVAI- NYC, Dulcamara L’ELISIR D’AMOR with Western Sydney Opera, King Balthazar AMAL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS with Penrith Symphony Orchestra, Gideon March/Mr Dashwood LITTLE WOMEN, and Buffo DER SCHAUSPIELDIREKTOR with the Sydney Conservatorium Opera School.

Other career highlights include bass solos in Bernstein’s Mass at the Sydney Opera House and Handel’s Messiah with the Penrith Symphony Orchestra.

Awards include the winner of Russian Song (Sydney Eisteddfod 2014), Finalist in Opera Awards and Male Operatic Voice (Sydney Eisteddfod 2015), and Finalist with The Opera Foundation for Young Australians (Lady Fairfax NYC Scholarship 2015).

In addition to his operatic credits, Christopher has appeared as the piano soloist for the performances of: Babajanian’s Heroic Ballade for Piano and Orchestra, and Piano Concertos by Chopin (No.1) with the Ryde Hunters Hill Symphony Orchestra, Rachmaninoff (No.2) with the Eroica Ensemble, Beethoven (No.3) with the Sydney University Intercol Orchestra, and Manera Concertante for Piano and Orchestra, broadcast by ABC Classic FM with the Sydney Conservatorium Modern Music Ensemble.

Christopher attended the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he received a Master in Piano and a Master in Opera Performance. Christopher works with voice coach Armen Boyajian, made possible with the financial assistance of The Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust.
