Jonathan Moore

thumbnail_spotlight 7Jonathan Moore is a London-based, award-winning actor, writer, and director. He has directed opera and theatre world premieres on London’s West End, at the Almeida, Donmar Warehouse, Manchester’s Royal Exchange, London’s Gate Theatre, English National Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Teatro La Fenice, Münchener Biennale Opera Festival and for BBC Television. Jonathan co-wrote the libretto for Mark-Anthony Turnage’s GREEKwhich he also directed in its world premiere and on film for the BBC.

In the opera house Jonathan has directed THE MAGIC FLUTE for Scottish Opera as well as writing a new version of the spoken text.  He has directed world and British premieres by leading composers including MacMillan INEZ DE CASTRO for Scottish Opera in co-production with BBC Television, later touring to the Edinburgh Festival and Porto’s European City of Culture, Schnittke LIFE WITH AN IDIOT for Scottish Opera and English National Opera,  Nyman FACING GOYA for the Satiago del Compostella Festival, Stewart Copeland CASK OF AMONTILLADO  at the Holders Easter Season, Barbados and TELL TALE HEART for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden at the Linbury,  Berkeley  BAA BAA BLACK SHEEP at the Cheltenham International Festival and Jan Muller Wieland DIE VERSICHERUNG for Staatstheater Darmstadt. His early work was sponsored by Joe Strummer of The Clash. He has collaborated closely with Hans Werner Henze, Ludovico Einaudi, members of the punk band Killing Joke, on several projects with industrial group Test Dept, reggae star Eddy Grant, jazz pianist Uri Caine and the classical violin virtuoso Daniel Hope.  In the 2016/17 season Jonathan will direct Stewart Copeland’s THE INVENTION OF MOREL for Chicago Opera Theater.
