Born in Copenhagen, Johannes Mannov made his professional debut as Silvano at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie’s production of UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, where he later returned to sing Ned Keene PETER GRIMES, a role subsequently repeated with great success at the Hamburgische Staatsoper. These appearances led to other invitations, including the title role in BILLY BUDD, conducted by Gary Bertini in Paris, the role of Zweiter Handwerkbursch in Pierre Strosser’s new production of WOZZECK conducted at the Bastille Opera by Jeffrey Tate, and his Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin debut as Cyrus in Keiser CROESUS, recorded for Harmonia Mundi. He returned to Berlin as Masetto DON GIOVANNI, going on to make his debut at the New Isreali Opera in Tel Aviv as BILLY BUDD followed by a staged production of Bach St. Matthew Passion, before going on to sing the role of Wolfram in WagnerTANNHÄUSER for the Opera Rouen. He made his USA debut for San Diego Opera as Papageno DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE and went on to sing Conte Almaviva LE NOZZE DI FIGARO for Cincinnati Opera. Further highlights included the role of Papageno for the Teatro Municipal in Chile.
His concert career has taken him all over the world, with conductors including Yehudi Menuhin, Helmuth Rilling, Franz Brüggen, Luigi Nono, Leif Segerstam, Hans-Martin Schneidt, Arturo Tamayo, and Goerge Malcolm. He has given radio broadcasts of works by Händel, Bach, Rossini, Busoni, Berg, Dvorak, Schumann, Britten and Luigi Nono. Highlights have included Britten War Requiem with Mstislav Rostropovich and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland in Dublin; a concert tour with the Ensemble Modern singing Bach Matthew Passion conducted by Philippe Herreweghe; St. John Passion and Mozart Requiem in Copenhagen conducted by Peter Schreier; Das Paradies und die Peri by Schumann with the Orchestra de la RAI in Milan; and Beethoven Symphony No. 9 in Singapore. He performed the premiere of Philippe Boesman Love und Dance Tunes at the Festival Ars Musica in Brussels, broadcast on Belgian radio, and further concerts have included Händel Athalia conducted by Christopher Hogwood in Copenhagen and Fauré Requiem with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Montgomery and with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Libor Pesek.
He returned to the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest with Mahler Rckert Lieder and St. John Passion, both conducted by Hartmut Haenchen, and has given performances of Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra at the Muziekcentrum Vredenburg in Utrecht for the KRO Radio,Elverskud by N.W. Gade with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, and BeethovenSymphony No. 9 conducted by Heinrich Schiff in Copenhagen. He toured Europe with La Petite Bande and Sigiswald Kuijken performing Haydn Il Ritorno di Tobbiaand Das Klagende Lied with the Orchestre National de Lyon conducted by Eliahu Inbal. He has also appeared on a tour of Haydn Creation conducted by René Jacobs, appeared with the Orchestre de Asturias in Oviedo, the Orquesta Filharmonica de Gran Canaria, the Concerto Köln, and performed Händel Alexanderfest in the Mozart version and Mozart Requiem both with the RIAS Kammerchor, Berlin, conducted by Marcus Creed.
