Eric Fennell

International tenor, Eric Fennell’s professional debut came when he jumped in for Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème at the Glimmerglass Opera Festival. This opportunity lead him to the New York City Opera where he sang six seasons and 13 roles. Mr. Fennell’s operatic highlights include Rodolfo in La Bohème with New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, National Theater Mannheim, Edmonton Opera, and Manitoba Opera; The Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto with Deutsche Oper Berlin, The Prague National Theater, The Slovak National Theater, and Gärtnerplatztheater (Munich); Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann with Teatro San Carlo (Naples), Hawaii Opera Theater, Staatstheater Mainz, and Deutsches National Theater Weimar; Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire with Teatro Colon (Argentina); Werther in Werther with Staatstheater Braunschweig, Lyric Opera of Ireland, and Opera Zuid(Netherlands); Alfredo in La Traviata with New York City Opera and The Slovak National Theater; Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with Sarasota Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, and Des Moines Metro Opera; Roberto in Roberto Devereux with Dallas Opera; Roméo in Roméo et Juliette with Greek National Opera, Slovenian National Theater, Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin, and Estonian National Theater; Don José in Carmen with Arizona Opera, Opera de Toulon, Salzburg Landestheater, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Theater Lübeck, Staatstheater Cottbus, Pacific Opera Victoria, and Oper am Steinbruch (Austria); Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera with Theater Pforzheim; Don Carlo in Don Carlo with Lithuanian National Opera; Camille in Die Lustige Witwe with Deutsche Oper am Rhein; Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Utah Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, and Opera Saratoga; Roberto in Le Villi with Latvian National Opera; The Prince in John Adams’ A Flowering Tree with Göteborgs Operan (Sweden); Dorian in Dorian Gray (World Premiere) with Slovak National Theater; Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Des Moines Metro Opera; Des Grieux in Manon with The Maria Biesu International Opera Festival(Moldova) and Opera Wroclawska; and Gerald in Lakmé for Sarasota Opera and Teatro Principal de Palma de Mallorca.

Recently, Mr. Fennell sang Don José in Carmen with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Don Carlos in Lithuania, a role debut singing Anatol in Samuel Barber’s Vanessa with Landestheater Neustrelitz, and another debut singing Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana with the Helena Symphony. In April 2025, he made his debut at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino singing Narraboth in Salome conducted by Alexander Soddy. In August 2026, he made his English debut as Don José in Carmen in the Bradford on Avon IfOpera Festival in southern England. His 2026 concert schedule will bring him to Hamburg, Erfurt, Berlin, Gettysburg, Miami, Sarasota, Orlando, Buffalo, Calgary, Edmonton, and Newport, RI. Mr. Fennell returns to opera in productions of Die Zauberflöte with Palm Springs Grand Opera and Don Giovanni with Nickel City Opera.

Originally from Allentown, Pennsylvania, Eric Fennell now lives in Berlin, Germany. He received a BA in music from Gettysburg College and a Masters in Vocal Performance and Artist Diploma from Boston University where he was a member of the Opera Institute.
