Danish bass Per Bach Nissen’s engagements in the 2022/23 season included Wirt DER SCHATZGRÄBER directed by Christof Loy at Opera National du Rhin and two roles for Salzburg Landestheater and the Mozarteum Orchestra:  King René IOLANTA and Kaiser in the world premiere of DES KAISERS NEUE WALZER by Alma Deutscher. His role-debut as Fasolt DAS RHEINGOLD was at Mupa, Budapest under Maestro Adam Fischer in 2019 (later released on commercial DVD), and in 2018 he made his critically acclaimed debut at Bregenzer Festspiele as Kardinal Camillo in Goldschmidt BEATRICE CENCI under the baton of Johannes Debus (also released on DVD).

Further engagements included Fafner DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN under Sebastian Weigle at Opera Frankfurt, Gremin EUGENE ONEGIN at Komische Oper under Henrik Nánási, Police Chief LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK at English National Opera under Mark Wigglesworth and Il Re AIDA at Malmö Opera under Leif Segerstam.

He returned to the Royal Danish Opera in the 21-22 season as Il Sagrestano TOSCA where he has performed every season in the last decade. Roles have included Dr. Bartolo IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, Jeronimus in Carl Nielsen MASKARADE, Tombeau in Amir Tafreshipour’s THE DOLL BEHIND THE CURTAIN (Naxos), Zuniga CARMEN and Jens Grand HEISES DROT OG MARSK, a role he will reprise in the 2023/24 season.  Per has sung Zuniga CARMEN with Danish National Opera and has performed with all the major Symphony Orchestras of Denmark. Future engagements in Copenhagen include Foltz DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG, also with the Royal Danish Opera.

From 2012-15 Per was a member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Hannover where roles included Boris LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK, Pogner DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG, Cherea CALIGULA, Gremin  EUGENE ONEGIN, Sarastro DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Gran Inquisitore DON CARLO, Theseus A MIDSUMMER NIGHT´S DREAM, Sam and Tom UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, and the Commendatore DON GIOVANNI. During this period he also guested as Rocco FIDELIO at Michigan Opera, Osmin DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL at Philadelphia Opera and Teatro Mario del Monaco di Treviso, Boris LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK and Gran Inquisitore DON CARLO at Theater Lübeck, and as Dr. Bartolo LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with Opera Zuid at The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Per was a member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Augsburg and Mecklenburg State Opera from 2005 to 2011.
