Grammy Award winning tenor, Thomas Glenn enjoys a favourable reputation as a creative interpreter of bel canto and Classical period repertoire as well as modern works.
His most frequent operatic roles include Count Almaviva in Rossini’s IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, Lindoro L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI, Ferrando in Mozart’s COSÌ FAN TUTTE, and the Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. He created the role of Robert Wilson in John Adams’ DOCTOR ATOMIC and continues to premiere new works by composers like Jack Perla and Tarik O’Regan.
Recent and upcoming operatic engagements include Nemorino L’ELISIR D’AMORE with Opera Idaho, McAlpine FILUMENA with Calgary Opera, Charles Mair LOUIS RIEL with the Canadian Opera Company, the Shepherd OEDIPUS REX with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, Tamino THE MAGIC FLUTE for Opera Idaho, Goro MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Don Basilio LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Alfred DIE FLEDERMAUS for Calgary Opera, the Evangelist in full staged performance of St. Matthew Passion with Gulfshore Opera, Lindoro L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI for the Opera Company of Middlebury, Ernesto in Donizetti’s DON PASQUALE with Intermountain Opera, Sandy in Peter Maxwell Davies’ THE LIGHTHOUSE with Opera Parallèle, and Gherardo GIANNI SCHICCHI, Beppe PAGLIACCI, Jonathan Dale SILENT NIGHT and Dr. Blind DIE FLEDERMAUS, all for Cincinnati Opera. On the concert platform Thomas has recently sung the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and the title role of Bernstein’s CANDIDE with the Oakland East Bay Symphony and Handel’s Messiah with the International Music Foundation in Chicago.
Thomas has performed at major opera companies including San Francisco Opera, The Metropolitan Opera, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Netherlands Opera and The English National Opera among others. He has also performed with major orchestras including the Atlanta Symphony, The Cleveland Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada, China National Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Berkeley Symphony and Oakland East Bay Symphony.
He is a graduate of the prestigious Adler Fellowship at San Francisco Opera where he enjoyed performing the Steersman in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER, Vitek in Janacek’s THE MAKROPULOS CASE, and Gherardo GIANNI SCHICCHI.
Thomas holds three degrees in music performance: a bachelor’s from Brigham Young University, a master’s from The University of Michigan and a doctorate (abd) from Florida State University. He is a past winner of the Concours International de Chant de Canari, France and a semi-finalist in the Monserrat Caballé Competition in Zaragoza, Spain.
