William Wallace, winner of the 2016 London Handel Singing Competition, graduated from the National Opera Studio and the Royal College of Music. William has worked with eminent conductors including Laurence Cummings, William Christie, Jorg Straube, Anthony Negus, Brian Kay and Julian Perkins. Operatic engagements have included his acclaimed debut at Longborough Festival Opera as the Steuermann in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER, Gomella in Wagner SONNENFLAMMEN at the Bayreuth Festspiele, Ferrando COSI FAN TUTTE for Theater Coburg, Grimoaldo in Handel RODELINDA with the Cambridge Handel Opera Company, Belfiore LA FINTA GIARDINERA and Beppe PAGLIACCI for Israeli Opera, James in Gazzaniga L’ISOLA D’ALCINA at Erholungshaus in Leverkusen-Wiesdorf and Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, Tamino THE MAGIC FLUTE with Mid Wales Opera, The Sailor and The Spirit in Les Arts Florrisants’ production of DIDO AND AENEAS, the title role in Thomas Arne ALFRED for The Northern Opera Group, Tamino DIE ZAUBERFLOTE and Alfredo LA TRAVIATA for Opera de Baugé, Count Almaviva IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA for Opera Project in Bristol, Arbante (cover) HIPERMESTRA and Ferrando (cover) COSI FAN TUTTE for Glyndebourne and the role of Claudius in the world premiere of Igor Escudero I CLAUDIUS on tour throughout Spain and the premiere of Escuderos THE METAMORPHOSIS in Zamora, Spain and in London.
Concert engagements include debut at the Wigmore Hall performing Ahasuerus in Handel, Esther for the London Handel Festival, Jonathan in Alexander Balus for the Internationale Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, Haydn Creation in Athens with Brian Kay and the Evangelist and tenor soloist in St. Matthew Passion in Hannover Marktkirche with Jorg Straube and Handel Messiah with the Ulster Orchestra and the Albert Hall and at St George’s Hanover Square for the London Handel Society.
William’s extensive oratorio and concert repertory includes Mozart Requiem, Mendelssohn Elijah, Rossini Petite Messe Solenelle, Handel Messiah, Joseph and His Brethren, Esther, Theodora, Judas Maccabeus, Acis and Galatea, Haydn Nelson Mass and Harmoniemesse, Saint-Saëns Oratorio de Noel and Bach Cantatas, Magnificat and Passions (as Evangelist and tenor soloist). William has recorded MARGARET CATCHPOLE: TWO WORLDS APART,at Snape Maltings, Eccles SEMELE with the Academy of Ancient Music and has made two appearances on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune singing Handel and Britten.
