Jo Pohlheim, Bass-Baritone, was born in Frankfurt and grew up in Munich. He studied vocal music at the Academy of Music in Frankfurt with Professor Martin Gründler, Professor Carla Castellani in Milan and Milkana Nikolova in Vienna.
Recent roles include Alberich DAS RHEINGOLDTheater Bield and Alberich SIEGFRIED and Alberich GÖTTERDAMMERUNG with Opera North, which he reprised in Opera North’s 2016 RING CYCLE.
His vocal development has led him from the Italian repertoire into the German heroic baritone trade. Jo Pohlheim was a member of the opera houses in Innsbruck, Kiel, Wiesbaden and Hanover. Since 2000 he has been working as a freelancer. He was the winner of the first prize at the national vocal competition in Berlin and took part in different radio, TV and CD-productions
His busy concert activities have taken him to important and well-known concert stages like the “Tonhalle” in Zürich, the “Musikhalle” in Hamburg, the “Teatro Maestranza” in Sevilla, the “Megaron” in Athens, the “Sala Sao Paulo”, the “Palau della Musica” in Valencia, the “Lisinski Hall” in Zagreb, the “Gasteig” in Munich and the “Liederhalle” in Stuttgart.
He has been invited to participate in the music festivals of Athens, Dubrovnik, Erfurt, Ljubljana, Ludwigsburg, Pula, Saloniki, Schwerin, Split and Wiesbaden. In guest performances he has sung at the opera houses of Antwerpen, Bari, Basel, Brussels, Lisboa, Modena, Palermo, Piacenza, Sao Paulo, Tel Aviv, and at the State Operas in Stuttgart, Vienna and Munich as well as at the Royal Opera House in London.
In recent years he has given his debuts in the following parts: Jago, Scarpia, Macbeth, Conte Luna, Amonasro, Boris Timofejitsch, Don Pizarro, Barak, Jochhanaan, Orest, Wozzeck, Gunther, Kurwenal, Beckmesser, Holländer, Telramund and Alberich in the Ring Circle.
