Matteo de Monti

Matteo De Monti was born in Amsterdam and studied voice with Denis Dowling und Otakar Kraus in London.  He is well known for his great variety of repertoire, ranging from WOZZECK and Dr. Schön to Bluebeard and Moses, from Mahler´s Kindentotenlieder to Schönberg´s Ode to Napleon.

In the highly acclaimed productions by George Tabori he sang Moses in Leipzig, Dresden, Weimar and Hamburg in Schönberg´s MOSES UND ARON, as well as Bluebeard in Bartók´s DUKE BLUEBEARDS CASTLE in Amsterdam.  Also directed by George Tabori he sang at the Berlin Festival Der Tod in Victor Ullmann´s DER KAISER VON ATLANTIS as well as the world premiere of Der Nackte Michelangelo (Shostakowitch´ Michelangelo Suite) at the Schaubühne in Berlin.

At the Oper Leipzig and Dresden he sang Majakowsky in the world premiere of Majakowsky´s TOD directed by Achim Freyer, and made an enormous impact in New York, as well as at the New Israeli Opera Tel-Aviv, in Chemnitz and Hannover as Moses in the world premiere of Kurt Weill´s  Der Weg der Verheissung.

His concert repertoire consists of works such as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, the Matthäus PassionJohannes PassionMessiahDie Schöpfung, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Rossini’s Stabat MaterPetite Messe Solennelle, Mozart’s Requiem, Mozart’s C-Minor Mass, Fauré’s Requiem, Berlioz L´Enfance Du Christ, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella and Verdi’s Requiem.  He has sung in such noted halls as the Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Salle Pleyel and Salle Olivier Messiaen in Paris, the Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Philharmonie in München, the Gewandthaus in Leipzig and the Konzerthaus in Vienna.

He has given Lieder recitals throughout Austria, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, the USA and Israel, notably his interpretation of Schubert´s WinterreiseSchwanengesang, and Die Schöne Müllerin has been received with great critical acclaim. He has recorded for many European Television and Radio Stations, such as the ORF, ARD, ZDF, ARTE, Bayerische Rundfunk, Israeli Broadcast, BBC and Radio France. CD recordings for Capriccio, Col Legno  and Denon Records.

In 2006/7 he directed his first opera, Offenbach´s ROBINSON CRUSOE in Innsbruck.
