Oleksandr Pushniak graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine and in 2012 won the 1st Prize and the Audience Prize at the International Wagner Competition in Karlsruhe. He has been a finalist at the International Vocal Competition in Den Bosch in the Netherlands, a semi-finalist at Placido Domingo’s “Operalia” competition held in Paris and a prize-winner at the European song contest at the Styriarte Festival in Graz. Pushniak was a member of Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program in Washington (USA) where his roles included Dottore Grenvil LA TRAVIATA, Petrucci LUCREZIA BORGIA, Mandarin TURANDOT, Fiorello IL BARBIERE DI SIVILGLIA and Antonio LE NOZZE DI FIGARO. He also performed at the Castleton Festival as Simone GIANNI SCHICCHI in a production conducted by Lorin Maazel.
During his time as a member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Braunschweig his roles include Carlo Gerard ANDREA CHÉNIER, Renato UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Miller LUISA MILLER, Don Carlo ERNANI, Amonasro AIDA, Kurwenal TRISTAN UND ISOLDE, Amfortas PARSIFAL, Figaro LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Scarpia TOSCA. He made his role debut in the title-role DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER with Victoria Theater’s RWA production in Singapore and made his debut as Donner DAS RHEINGOLD at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany. In 2015 he reprised the role of Donner in recorded (for the Naxos label) concert performances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic conducted by Jaap Van Zweden.
Recent engagements include King Philip DON CARLOS with the Concertgebouw Orchestra at the Gut Immling Festival (Germany), Amonasro AIDA at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Duisburg und at Oper Halle. At Nationaltheater Weimar his roles have included Leporello DON GIOVANNI, Bartolo LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Mercer in the world premiere of Vollmer’s THE CIRCLE, Scarpia TOSCA and the Drache in Dessau’s LANZELOT. Upcoming engagements in Weimar include the title-role in Glanert’s CALIGULA.
